History[]

Early Uestadenia[]

The Leameans tribes were the primary ethnic group in what would later become the Kingdom of Uestadenia. Beginning in about 2500 BP, the Gardlies tribe began to expand to the south, entering the northern territories of the Leameans and the Lumattans. The Gardlies were militarily superior to the other tribes at the time, possibly due to their proximity to the more advanced people of ancient Estontetso who were beginning to form kingdoms. The Gardiles made an alliance with the Leamean tribes along the south of the northern bay (the northerly tribes having been conquered) and launched an attack on the Odemoss together. They succeeded, and the territory was split between the Gardlies and the Leameans.

With the territory now called Dascunya now divided between the Gardlies and the Leameans, political structures began to establish themselves. The confederations of tribes that fought the wars of expansion began to coalesce into single states, each lead by a high chieftain. The nation of the Gardlies came to be known as Dascagnia (the origin of the Liliani name for the region, which in turn gives us Dascunya), and the Leamean nation was called Uestadagnia (gradually transferred into Uestadenia).

The Kingdom of Uestadagnia lasted until the Liliani invasions. In 1951 BP, the Lilani Empire began its territorial annexation of Dascagnia and Uestadagnia. Chief Heaga of Uestadagnia allied with Chief Fergus of the Dascagnians, and fought the Liliani legions, under the command of the general Augusto Claudio, at the battle of Werrian. It was the largest pitched battle fought by the Liliani Empire in its conquest of the south, and in it, the Lilianis decisively defeated the Gardlian and Leamean tribes. Fergus was killed in battle, and with his death, resistance to Liliana collapsed, leaving the invaders virtually unopposed. Dascagnia became part of the Liliani Empire. In 1890 BP, Emperor Comesias, first of the Garanones dynasty, launched an invasion of Uestadagnia, which was completely conquered by 1862 BP.

Liliani Uestadegnium[]

Provinces of the Liliani Empire[]

In 1703, Uestadegnium was given provincial status and Quintus Caius Acacius, a high ranking Praetor in the Liliani army was made the first Promagistrate of Uestadegnium. Adenmar, which at the time was little more than a large Liliani military outpost was established as the administrative capital of the Uestadegnium province. Promagistrate Acacius became an efficient ruler in the province and was successful in establishing peace with the tribal leaders. Acacius allowed local tribal leaders to self govern in return for keeping the peace. He later established the Council of Uestadegnium, a two tiered government system in which high rankings Liliani Magistars and tribal Chieftains governed the province. In the early days of provincial rule a number of important settlesments were established including modern day Zavandean, Reldamere and Senordney.

Arrival of Cruisianty[]

See Cruisanism in Westdenia

Cruisian legend documents that the apostle Marco, travelled through Liliana and central Longerath, but found the lands too corrupt and degenerate and therefore moved onwards, travelling to the newer colonies on Lendia and establishing a church. Prior to landing in Lendia, Marco was said to have arrived in Uestadegnium around 1345 BP. Marco and his followers came to the attention of the authorities whilst in Zavandean and were arrested on the charge of being heretics. Whilst Emperor Constantinus had made Cruisanism the official religion of the Lilian Empire in the 15th century, Odynism was still the prevalent religion in Uestadegnium and religious persecution towards Cruisian's was still common place in the outer Empire.

The group of Crusian missionaries were found guilty of being heretics and sentenced to death by fire. On the eve of their execution, a group of locals who claimed to have witnessed Marco cure a man from blindness broke into the prison and escaped the city with Marco and his fellow missionaries. The band of locals carried the missionaries, who had been badly beaten and tortured to the west, to the Arynguard Temple Sanctuary of the Iraccian Sisterhood. The Temple Sanctuary was an Iraccian Sisterhood sanctuary where locals would bring their sick and pregnant family members. Sister Sophia the Grey, the senior Sister of the Temple agreed to treat the missionaries in secrecy.

There the sisters are said to have treated Marco, who was close to death. The five men who had helped the missionaries escape became known as the 'Zavandean Five,' remained at the Temple Sanctuary whilst the Liliani army searched for the group of heretics. However, due to the fear of the Iraccian Sisterhood in society, no military commander would lead a search on any Iraccian Temple Sanctuary.

Around 100 locals in Zavandean, including family members of the Zavandean Five were rounded up and executed on charges of assisting in the escape of the heretics. After six months of healing, Marco was well enough to travel and the Sisters of Arynguard assisted the missionaries and the Zavandean Five onto a ship run by Lendian smugglers, who agreed to provide transport to Lendia for the missionaries.

It is said that the Sisters of Arynguard embraced Cruisianty after listening to the teachings of Marco and that the Arynguard Temple Sanctuary of the Sisterhood became a secret Church and refuge for persecuted Cruisians. Marco is said to have gifted the Arynguard Sisters his Rosary which the Sisters safely stored at the Temple Sanctuary along with the bloodstained bandages that had been used to treat Marco. The Rosary of Saint Marco and Bandages of Saint Marco later became to of the most famous Holy relics in Papaist Crusianism and are now displayed at Adenmar Cathedral.

By 1250 BP Cruisanism was the largest faith in Westdenia and the Province had three Papaist Cathedrals in Adenmar, Frankelburg and Senordney and churches in nearly every town and village. Edwin of Adenmar became the first Archbishop of Uestadegnium when he was eleced in 1241 BP.

Liliani Counties[]

See Council of Nobility (1200 BP)

In 1200 BP, Liliani saw that the extensive territories of Dascugnium and Uestadegnium were difficult to control and abolished the provinces and divided the territory into smaller counties. Uestadegnium was divided into three counties: Zorriaga, Adenmar and Fluvis.

On 8 April 1200 BP, all the noble families of Dascugnium and Uestadegnium were called to Drekan for the Council of Nobility, where Senator Severus Amma Diacius officially created the titles of the Dascugnium and Uestadegnium Count's, with all the counts having to swear allegiance to the Emperor of Liliani.

The three most senior noble houses of Uestadegnium, House Bretwald, House Wulfred and House Aethelwald were elected to hold power in the three Uestadegnium Counties. Nicholas Bretwald was created High Count of Fluvis, Edmund Wulfred High Count of Zorriaga and Francis Aethelwald High Count of Adenmar.

Kingdom of Anglyodascunya[]

See Kingdom of Anglyodascunya

In 712 BP the Liliani provinces of Dascagnium and Uestadagnium rebelled against Liliani rule. At the same time, peasant revolts took hold of northern Liliana, particularly in the region of Escorpionica. Liliana did not abandon these regions as they did Lendia, however, and mobilised their legions to deal with the problem. This was not enough, however, and after twelve years fighting, was forced to abandon its territories in the south.

Dascunya and Uestadenia, being born of the same rebellion and having fought together against Liliana, were always fairly close friends, and this was maintained by the first monarchs of these nations following their independence. The second king of Dascunya, however, William II, entered into conflict with Uestadenia King Gaewulf I of Uestadenia, conquering the city of Deltland in 662 BP.

In 520 BP, the Ançaldascunyan king Alexander I further enlarged his holdings by marriage to Lorenza of Uestadenia. This created a single kingdom over all of modern Dascunya and more. It was originally referred to as the Kingdom of Dascunya, Uestadenia, and Ançalda, but this was abbreviated to simply Dascunya. Some historians use the name Uestadançaldascunya, but this is regarded by most as too long, and it was never used by the nation itself. Others refer to it as the Drekanian Empire, after the old name of its capital, St. Hugues.
