Pre-Longerathian Wars 600-427 BP[]

Longerathian Wars 427-138 BP[]

At the beginning of the Longerathian Wars 427BP a prefix IEM (Imperial Estontetsan Man-o'-war) to the names of naval ships was introduced, but it was not compulsory.

The wars, as all wars, promoted advance of technology and tactics. Most conspicuouus is the development of elevated so-called aftercastles at the stern.

Post-Longerathian Wars 138 BP-97 AP[]

Ships become larger and heavier, but slimmer-lined, so faster.

When in 97 AP the Kingdom was born, freedom of sciences was increasingly suppressed, and by about 200AP, technology came to a virtual standstill. No modern technology was allowed into the country during that period. The steam propulsion was introduced just in time. The fleet was settled for defence and show of force.

In 98 AP the prefix to the ships' names was ordered to be REM (Royal Estontetsan Man-o'-war) and became commonplace.

The Federal Estontetsan Navy, 298-321[]

With the change of the flag, FEM (Federal Estontetsan Man-o'-war) was used as prefix for naval ships.

During this time, no new ships were commissioned.

Estontetso is still an old-fashioned country where the good old techniques are still paramount: Steam and sail ships, airships and the like. All active ships of the Coast Guards have been built by the Royal Estontetsan Navy!

A recent proposal to prefix naval ship names, in old tradition, with ECG or ECGC for Estontetsan Coast Guards (Cutter) did not find approval. Nevertheless the prefix is in international military use.
